Our Sweet Three-Day
Itinerary for Families
There’s something special about seeing the mountains through your kids’ eyes; the waterfalls feel taller, the ice cream sweeter, and the porch swings more magical. Here’s our guide to making the most of a family getaway in McCaysville, Blue Ridge, and beyond.
Day One : Thursday
4:00 PM – Check-in at Hey Darlin’ Cottage
Welcome home! Unpack, let the kids claim their rooms, and take a moment on the porch to breathe in that fresh mountain air.
5:00 PM – Dinner at the Cottage
Keep it simple tonight — whether it’s pizza delivery, takeout from town, or something easy you’ve brought along. Light the candles, gather around the table, and toast to the start of your getaway.
6:30 PM – Cozy Family Game Night
Pull out the board games, make some hot cocoa, and let the competition begin! From checkers to charades, it’s the perfect way to settle in and make the cottage feel like yours.
Day Two : Friday
8:30 AM – Breakfast at Mercier Orchards
Apple cider donuts, big farm breakfasts, and a market full of goodies to explore. The kids can feed the ducks while you sip coffee.
10:00 AM – Hike to Fall Branch Falls
An easy trail with a big waterfall payoff. Pack water shoes if your little ones can’t resist splashing!
12:30 PM – Lunch at Harvest on Main
Fresh, local flavors with a kids’ menu that keeps everyone happy.
2:00 PM – Shopping & Ice Cream in Downtown Blue Ridge
Boutiques for you, toy shops for them, and plenty of fudge and ice cream stops along the way.
4:00 PM – Relax at the Cottage
Swing time on the porch, quiet reading, or a quick nap — do whatever feels best.
6:30 PM – Dinner at Toccoa Riverside Restaurant
A family-friendly dinner right by the water. Order the trout and let the kids enjoy the open-air seating.
Day Three : Saturday
8:00 AM – Breakfast at The Café at 32 Toccoa
Hearty plates and strong coffee before a big day outdoors.
10:00 AM – River Rafting on the Toccoa
Family-friendly rafting = squeals, splashes, and lots of laughs. Don’t forget a change of clothes!
1:00 PM – Picnic Lunch at Mercier Orchards
Spread out a blanket, enjoy sandwiches, and let the kids run off some energy.
2:30 PM – Horseback Riding at Cowgirl Up Stables
Forest trails on horseback (and pony rides for the littlest riders).
5:30 PM – Dinner at Black Sheep
Upscale, yet family-welcoming — parents get their fine dining moment, kids get comfort favorites.
Day Four : Sunday
8:00 AM – Coffee & Breakfast
Choose your morning spot:
The Café at 32 Toccoa for a hearty sit-down meal.
The Folk Collaborative for orchard charm.
Yellowbird Coffee for quick pastries and caffeine.
9:30 AM – McCaysville Riverwalk Shops
Souvenirs, sweets, and one last stroll by the water before heading home.
11:00 AM – Check-out
Pack up, wave goodbye to the mountains, and promise yourselves you’ll be back soon.
